How many customers does Reliance Jio have?
Reliance Jio has around 51 crore subscribers. In fact Jio is the first choice of billions of people due to cheap recharge plans and attractive offers or 5G services. However, many people are in trouble after the recent increase in the cost of recharge plans. Especially for those who use two or more sims at the same time, regularly recharging all the numbers has become quite expensive.
If you neglect it, you will suffer
In this situation, many people recharge their primary number on time, but delay or neglect to recharge their secondary or second number. But do you know how long your Jio SIM will remain active if not recharged? When can the number be closed? Let’s find out what the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) rules say.
How long Jio SIM is active?
As per TRAI rules, a SIM card can be disabled or deactivated if there is no recharge or any activity (such as calling, messaging or data usage) for a long period of time. This rule applies to Jio, Airtel, Vodafone-Idea (Vi) and BSNL—all companies.
How long is the validity?
In case of JIO, the number usually remains active for up to 90 days (about 3 months) after your current recharge plan expires. The number is not completely closed within these 90 days. However, if the number is not recharged within this period, the company may close the number permanently and the number may be sold to another new customer as per the rules.
How long are the benefits of incoming calls and OTP available?
Outgoing (calls and messages) services are stopped immediately after the plan expires. However, as per TRAI’s rules, even if the SIM is active for 90 days, the duration of free incoming calls or OTP depends entirely on the company’s commercial policy. Usually incoming calls or bank OTP can be received for maximum 7 to 30 days after completion of recharge, after which all services are gradually blocked.
Automatic Number Retention Scheme
If your Jio SIM main balance is Rs.20 or more, there is a way to protect the SIM even after 90 days. As per TRAI rules, the SIM is extended for another 30 days by deducting Rs.20 from the account balance. But if there is no money in the main balance and no recharge for 90 days, the SIM is locked forever.
What is the experience of customers in this regard?
Many customers have shared their experience on social media platform Reddit saying that after the recharge is over, they keep getting phone calls or messages from Jio asking them to recharge. It has been seen in many cases that OTP or incoming calls remain active for several months even without recharging. But it would be wise to recharge at least a minimum value base plan to save your useful number without taking any risk.
