What is Gaganyan Mission?

Mission Gaganyaan was approved in the year 2018. Its objective is to send at least 3 Indian astronauts to low-Earth orbit. The astronauts will stay in space for three days and then land at a fixed location in the ocean. ISRO has planned a total of 3 missions. There are preparations to send a robot ‘Vyommitra’ in the first two missions. Astronauts will be included in the third mission.

ISRO has successfully launched the first test flight of this mission. The astronauts who will be sent to space include Group Captain Prashant Balakrishnan Nair, Angad Pratap and Ajit Krishnan and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla. Of these, Shubhanshu Shukla is undergoing training in America and will soon fly to the International Space Station (ISS) as a part of an American mission.

If India is successful in Mission Gaganyaan, it will become the fourth country after America, Russia and China to send its astronauts to space. According to reports, the astronauts going on the mission will have many food options. Six different menus have been prepared. Breakfast is expected to include light items like upma, poha, idli. There will be meat and veg biryani options for lunch, while dinner may include items like chapattis, vegetables and meat with gravy.
