These days, extreme heat is being seen in many parts of the world including India. When the heat increases in dry areas, the human body starts cooling itself by sweating. But in humid areas, sweat is not able to come out from the body so quickly, hence the body feels more heat. But there are many areas on earth where the heat increases beyond limits. If the sea is also present along with the hot desert, then severe heat is found in such areas, because along with the heat, moisture also gets included here.

When the level of moisture in the air increases, even after sweating, it is not able to turn into steam quickly. Therefore, in humid areas the body’s way of keeping itself cool through sweat also fails. At the same time, in dry areas, the human body can easily keep itself cool through sweating. In areas like Middle East, Pakistan, India, humid air is also found along with heat. These two things coming together produce unbearable heat which can be fatal.

Scientists use a wet bulb thermometer to measure this danger associated with heat. Report According to, if the temperature of this bulb is 35 degrees Celsius or above then the human body is not able to expel the heat in the amount that should be expelled to keep cool. Therefore, in areas like India, prolonged exposure to humidity and heat increases the risk of heat stroke.

In India in May 2024, when the temperature was around 49 degrees Celsius, many people died of heat stroke due to the conditions created by humidity and heat. One needs to be very careful in such situations. Climate change is the most burning topic at the moment. Burning of fossil fuels increases the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. This gas forms a layer in the atmosphere and traps the sun’s heat near the surface, causing the surface to become very hot. This is what causes climate change.

The earth’s temperature is continuously increasing. Climate change is not only creating heat, it is also creating many other problems. When hot air increases in the atmosphere, it evaporates more. Due to which water from crops, forests and fields starts evaporating rapidly and they dry up. The incidence of forest fires increases 6 times with every degree Celsius increase in temperature.

Due to the warming earth the size of the oceans is also increasing. Due to this the coastal areas are becoming vulnerable to floods. It is being said that by the year 2100, 2 billion people will have to change their place of residence.

The bad news is that unless carbon burning is stopped, the Earth’s temperature will continue to rise. But the good news is that there are now many alternatives to fossil fuels. This includes energy sources like electric energy, wind energy, solar energy. By adopting these, carbon burning can be reduced. And the earth can be prevented from becoming a burning furnace.
