According to Space.com report, a Russian astronaut walked out into space while attached to the robotic arm of the ISS. He threw into space the old equipment that was replaced during the spacewalk on December 19.
According to the report, Alexei Ovchinin, flight engineer of the Expedition 72 mission, did a spacewalk of about 7 hours with Ivan Wagner. During this, he separated unnecessary electrical connectors, covers and an experiment boom from the ISS. Later, Evan Wagner attached the robotic arm and threw all the garbage into space. During this time, another of his colleagues, Alexander Gorbunov, was controlling a 37-foot long robotic arm from inside the space station.
As soon as the robotic arm reached the predetermined point, Ovchinin threw away all the garbage. According to the report, it will now burn after entering the Earth’s atmosphere. The astronauts’ efforts were successful and all the garbage is moving away from the ISS.
According to the report, Ovchinin and Wagner also worked on the Zvezda service module during the nearly 7-hour spacewalk. He had installed an X-ray spectrometer named ‘All-Sky Monitor’ there.
As easy as it is to throw garbage on Earth, this task is equally difficult in space. There the scientists have to do each work with complete preparation and technique.
