Screen Mirring Fraud
Recently, Wancard warned his customers about a dangerous online scandal called WhatsApp Screen Mirring Fraud. In the case of this fraud, fraudsters cheat on users to activate screen sharing. Then they steal their personal information such as OTP, bank details, passwords and messages. The victims then may be the victims of financial loss, losing control of bank accounts, and even theft of identity.
How does this fraud cycle work?
ঐ The fraudsters call themselves as an employee of a bank or financial organization and show excuses for having a problem in the account.
2 The fraudsters ask the user to start sharing screen and then talk about screen access through WhatsApp video call.
When the user enters the banking app, upi or password, the fraudsters see everything in real-time and complete the transaction.
ঐ At times, cheaters install keyboard logges on mobile, through which they get access to each typed words, passwords and OTPs.
The use of stolen data
Using this information, the fraudsters hack bank accounts by making unauthorized transactions, get access to social media and UPI accounts and abuse the victim’s identity.
Is the banking app safe?
According to cyber security experts, most of India’s main bank app has screen capture blocks, security sessions and timout. But if customers approve of screen sharing inadvertently, the security fraudsters of some apps can easily be avoided.
How to protect yourself?
What to do:
ঐ Always check the identity of the collar from the official number.
2 Share your screen with your believers.
ঐ Close the option to install the app from an unknown source on your mobile.
Block the suspicious number immediately and file a complaint at Cybercrime.gov.in or 1930.
ঐ Enable the two-factor authentication option in all financial and messaging apps.
Do not do:
Do not answer the unknown or suspicious call.
Never use upi, banking or wallet apps when sharing a screen.
