In IPL 2025, Ajinkya Rahane will once again be part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) setup. He previously played for KKR in the 2022 season before spending two seasons with Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
At the IPL 2025 mega auction, KKR picked up Rahane at his base price of INR 1.5 crore.
On March 3, KKR officially appointed Ajinkya Rahane as their captain for the upcoming season. Here’s a look at Rahane’s IPL captaincy record:
Ajinkya Rahane has represented six different franchises in his IPL career, with the majority of his stint spent with Rajasthan Royals (RR).
He was part of the RR setup from 2012 to 2015. After RR were suspended for two seasons, Rahane joined Rising Pune Supergiant, where he also took on captaincy duties.
When RR returned to the league, Rahane rejoined them for another two-season spell in 2018 and 2019.
Ajinkya Rahane led Rajasthan Royals and Rising Pune Supergiant in a total of 25 matches between 2017 and 2019. During his captaincy tenure, his teams managed to win only nine games while losing 16.
Notably, under his leadership, RR reached the playoffs in IPL 2018 but couldn't make it to the final.
In the following season, Rajasthan Royals had a disappointing start, and after a series of defeats under Ajinkya Rahane, the captaincy was handed over to Steve Smith.
Rahane's individual performance with the bat was also modest during his leadership stint. He scored 583 runs in 25 matches as captain, averaging 25 with a strike rate of 122, managing just two half-centuries and hitting only nine sixes.
