Social Media Apps: Smartphones are in almost everyone’s hands these days. And because of that, many people have access to social media these days. As the use of social media is increasing day by day, the dangers are also increasing by leaps and bounds. Many people know that fraud and scams are increasing through social media. Many people have been victims of that scam so far. Now to prevent these problems, the Indian government is going to bring new rules for the protection of users.
WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Snapchat, GeoChat, Arattai, Josh – these popular messaging apps are used by millions of people. The Indian government is going to bring strict restrictions on the use of these apps. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has said that from now on users must have an active SIM to use these apps. The device from which the user will use these apps, must have an active SIM. Otherwise users will not get the service. Recently such information has been found.
This new rule of the central government is being brought under the Telecommunication Cybersecurity Amendment Rules, 2025. This is the first time app based communication services have been brought under telecom style regulation. According to the new rules, the said apps, which are officially called telecommunication Identifier User Entities (TIUEs), in case of using those apps, a user’s SIM card must be connected to that particular app for 90 consecutive days.
The mentioned apps are not only available on mobiles. These apps can also be used through the web i.e. through the web browser. The government has created a new level of security for using these apps in the web browser. After 6 hours of logging in these apps through web, it will log out automatically. Users will then be asked to log-in again via a QR code.
As the number of frauds through various social media apps is increasing, users are being asked to have an active and verified SIM while using it. Once this rule is implemented, at least no one can easily use these apps for criminal activities. It is believed that it will be possible to avoid the danger to some extent. The central government is going to bring this new rule for the safety of the users.
