In response to a written question in the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar said that the Center has blocked 6 lakh 69 thousand SIM cards and 1 lakh 32 thousand International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers to prevent cyber crime in the country. Basically, what measures is the central government taking to prevent cyber fraud? The minister gave this information in response to that question. The minister expressed concern about the way people from all sections of the country are being affected due to the increase in cybercrime. Sanjay said that in recent times cybercrime is increasing with fake digital arrests, FedEx scams and impersonation of government and police officials. In that case cyber criminals are running such international frauds. He said that telecom service providers have been instructed to block such international calls.
This number of SIM and IMEI numbers have been blocked till November 15, the minister said. A Cyber Fraud Mitigation Center (CFMC) has been created at the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (14C) in the country. Through this, citizens will be able to file a complaint quickly if they are victims of financial cyber fraud. This service was launched in 2021. This can stop fraudsters from funding. The minister also said that according to the information provided by the police, 3 thousand 431 crore rupees have been recovered in the case of more than 9 lakh 94 thousand complaints of cyber fraud across the country.
