There is no doubt that till some time all smartphones were similar in appearance. But this year some manufacturers launched new flagship phones with thin borders and tall screens. Now, most of the manufacturers are using 18:9 aspect ratio and buyers are also coming forward to buy smartphones with the new look. Smartphone manufacturer Oppo has also joined this list with its new Oppo F5. We got a chance to spend some time with this new variant at the time of its official launch. Let us know how the phone looks at first glance.

The big display in the phone is the first thing that attracts attention. The F5 has a 6-inch FullHD+ screen. The 18:9 ratio screen fits only in the 5.5 inch screen size. The edges of the phone are thin and 152 grams cannot be called heavy. The power and volume buttons are easily accessible.

On the front, the phone has an earpiece and a 20-megapixel selfie camera. The bottom portion of the phone is empty as Oppo smartphones offer on-screen navigation buttons.

The back part of the phone is curved near the edges due to which the grip of the phone remains convenient. Our Gold review unit has silver antenna lines at the top and bottom which look good. The phone has a 16-megapixel rear camera with aperture F/1.8. The sensor is slightly raised but there is a metal ring around it that will protect the lens from any scratches. Oppo has provided a loudspeaker, micro-USB port and 3.5 mm socket at the bottom, while there is a second microphone at the top.

The phone has an octa-core MediaTek MT6763T processor. The base variant of Oppo F5 has 4 GB RAM and 32 GB storage but the company has also launched a higher priced 6 GB RAM / 64 GB variant. The F5 is a dual SIM device and has two Nano-SIM slots and a microSD card slot. The phone does not come with a hybrid design, so there will be no need to sacrifice a second SIM card to increase the storage. To power the phone, there is a 3200 mAh non-removable battery.

Talking about software, the F5 runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with ColorOS on top. The UI is slightly different compared to stock Android. But if you have used Oppo phone before then there should be no problem.

We did not face any problem while using the phone, and we liked the combination of processor and RAM. Oppo has used AI beauty technology to improve selfies taken with the 20-megapixel sensor. We clicked some pictures with the camera and liked the results.

Whatever time we spent with the Oppo F5, our experience was great. But the challenge for phones is tough. If your priority is to take better selfies then you can buy the phone. Stay tuned to Gadgets 360 for the full review of the Oppo F5.
