Nokia G21 is a recently launched budget smartphone by HMD Global. It claims a three -day battery life and promises to come up with Android updates for the next two years. A high refresh rate display has also been given in the phone, which is now becoming normal in the phones below 15 thousand. There is a fierce contest in this segment on behalf of Redmi, Realme and Samsung, and companies are in vying to get ahead of another by presenting something better. The phone stands in the market on the basis of Android One and battery capacity. So would you like to go with Nokia G21 while buying a low budget phone? Here is my review.

Nokia G21 price in India

Nokia G21 The base variant starts at a price of Rs 12,999 with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage. Its second variant comes with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, which costs Rs 14,999. The company has introduced it in two Finnish-Nordic Blue and Dask.

Design of Nokia G21

Where most of the smartphones try to come with glossy finish in the budget segment, Nokia G21 seems a bit old here. It has a texured back panel which is made of plastic just like the rest of the phone. But it prevents fingers from getting scars. The company also gives a case in the box with the phone. The back panel has a square camera module in the top left corner, which does not feel too out.

Nokia Ji 21 has flat sides, following the recent ongoing design trends. The corners are curved, so it does not prick in the hand while holding it. The phone gets side mounted fingerprint scanner which is given in the power button. There is a slightly above volume button on this side.

On the second side, dedicated Google Assistant button has been given and SIM tray is placed. Its 3.5mm audio is given on the top of the jack phone, while the USB type C port and speaker are given in the bottom. The Nokia G21 has a 6.5 -inch display with an aspect ratio 20: 9, and has an HD Plus resolution. It comes with Dudrop notch which is simple in this price range phone. The display has heavy chin on the bottom. Overall, the phone seems quite strong.

Nokia G21’s Specifications and Software

The specifications of the phone are quite simple. It is equipped with Unisoc T606 SoC which is an entry -level octacore chipset. It has two Arm Cortex-A75 performance core and 6 Arm Cortex-A55 Efficiency Corps. All have been cracked on 1.6GHz. The Nokia G21 has an HD+ display with a refresh rate of 90Hz and a maximum brightness of 400 nits. To increase storage, it also has a dedicated microSD card slot.

For connectivity, this smartphone has Bluetooth 5, dual band Wi-Fi AC, NFC and three satellite navigation systems. The battery capacity is 5,050mAh with a support of 18W fast charging. The company offers 10W charger with the phone.

Nokia G21 runs on Android 11 and comes with Android One Program. This means that you will get stock Android experience and you will get Android OS updates for two years. The absence of Android 12 is consumed here because most phone manufacturers are now giving Android 12 devices. My unit had an Android security patch of May 2022. UI is clean but still I found apps pre-installed apps like Expressvpn, LinkedIn, Netflix and Spotify. They can also be removed.

Many gesture features are available in the phone from which some work is done with a bip. For example, there is a double tap to awaken the screen, the phone can be flipped to reject the call, double tapping on the power baton turns on the camera. Apart from this, many more gestures have been given. It also has stock Android features such as digital wellbeing so that you can track your usage habits.

Nokia G21 performance and battery life

Nokia G21 performs properly according to the price. Casual games and apps handle it without any interruption. However, more heavy games and apps take time to load. A little multi -tasking can be done with 6 GB RAM variants, but it does not get the RAM extension feature which can be useful in 4 GB variants. The side mounted fingerprint scanner is faster to unlock the phone. The quality of HDPlus display is average. FullHD plus displays are now coming in this segment, so some people may be disappointed.

The benchmark scores of the phone will give you the gesture of usage experience. The phone scored 198,068 points on AnuTu. It scored 306 and 1221 points respectively in the single and multi -core tests of Geekbench 5. It scored 34fps and 8.8fps in GFXBench’s T-Rex and Car Chase Tests. These score budget smartphones like Redmi 10 prime And Samsung Galaxy F22 We were equal to, who fall in this price range.

Talking about gaming, the phone performed average in a game like Call of Duty: Mobile. Default it was on low and medium frame rate settings. The game took some time to load and I also saw some problems in the rendering of things inside the game. I played 15 minutes of games in which the battery went down only 2 percent, which is quite a good thing. By the end of the game session, the phone was lightly hot.

In terms of battery level, Nokia G21 came out far ahead. Thanks to affordable processor and big battery, the phone lasts for two days in my simple use. In HD video loop test, the phone lasted 20 hours 4 minutes which is a good time. It is very slowly charged with 10W charger and only 23 percent was charged in half an hour. It was charged 45 percent in an hour. It took 2 hours to fully charge. Taking 18W charger will be beneficial here.

Nokia G21 camera

Nokia G21 has a triple rear camera setup. It has a 50-megapixel primary camera, 2-megapixel macro camera and a 2-megapixel depth camera. It has an 8 megapixel shooter for selfie. The camera app is quite basic and you can choose from different shooting mode. The 50-megapixel primary camera clicks the photo in 12.5-megapixels by default.

The primary camera takes a good photo in the de light which looks good on the phone’s display. Details are reduced when zoom is reduced. In landskep mode, there was a water -like effect on the photo. When there is more brightness, the phone quickly enables HDR mode, which makes the dynamic range good.

Closeup shots of the phone camera came very good. Photos in portrait mode were not good. Here the camera was taking 5 seconds with every photo, so it was difficult to get photographs of pets. Its macro camera brought photos with average details.

The camera performs average in low-light. Things can be identified but details were missing in the dark parts of the frame. Night mode improved some improvement but it was taking 6 seconds to take a photo, in which I had to stand without moving to stop the blur.

The selfie camera made a good light and a selfie taken in low-light. Edge detection in portrait mode was good and blur was also properly managed in the background.

Talking about video recording, Nokia G21 can capture 1080p video with rear camera. It does not have stabilization, which records the footage shake. Overall, its camera performance is average. If there was a wideangal camera, a lot could be done with it.

Our decision

Nokia G21 is an Android One smartphone that gives stock Android experience, promises software updates for two years. Its build quality and battery life are good. This simple and clean Android interface will be liked by ordinary users. Power users may not be affected by its low power. The camera performance was also low in me.

If you ignore some of its flaws, then Nokia G21 is a trustable device for simple use, which is not seen much in this price range. If you want more performance in this price Realme 9i Or Moto G51 Can see If you are going towards its 6GB variant Redmi Note 10T 5G Can also see.
