According to Space.com, the name of the exoplanet that has been discovered is Gliese 12 b. This planet revolves around a small and cool red dwarf star. The distance of the planet is about 40 light years from our Earth. NASA discovered the exoplanet with the help of Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). Its width is estimated to be about 1.1 times that of Earth. Because of this, apart from our Earth, it also appears to be equal to the planet Venus.
The exoplanet named Gliese 12 b orbits its star very closely. One year on this planet is completed in about 12.8 days on Earth. The star that Gliese 12 b revolves around is smaller than our Sun and also cooler. Despite being close to its star and orbiting it quickly, this exoplanet may be suitable for habitation.
Scientists estimate that this planet is neither too hot nor too cold for the presence of liquid water. However, scientists do not have accurate information about its atmosphere. Scientists are hopeful that they will get more information about it in the coming days.
However, a planet the size of Earth has not been discovered for the first time. Scientists have already discovered such exoplanets, but the possibility of life has not been confirmed in any till now. So far, more than 5 thousand exoplanets have been discovered outside our solar system.
