There are still some species on Earth which are hidden from the eyes of scientists. Researchers at Australia’s University of Sunshine Coast have found a new genus and five new species. These are a species of many-legged insects, or millipedes, found in the forests of Tanzania. The discovery has been made in South East Africa. Actually, here in the mountains of Udzungwa, researchers were gathering information about the growth of trees and vines.

New York Post According to Professor Andy Marshall at the University of the Sunshine Coast, the heads of millipedes look like characters from the Star Wars series. They are said to have around 200 legs and are several centimeters long in size. Millipedes found in Africa can grow up to 35 centimeters long, or even 14 inches.

Researchers say that with their help two different theories of the role of vine in the recovery of forests are revealed. Either the vine is acting like a bandage in the forest, protecting the wounds caused to it, or it is acting like a parasite which is suffocating the forest. He said during his research he recorded millipedes of all sizes because they tell us the health of the forest. He further said that we did not know their significance until myriapodologists assessed our specimens.

Professor Marshall says that it is worth noting here that when millipedes were first collected from this area, these species were not visible. But he hopes that something new can still be found here. He said that the discovery of new species of millipedes shows that there is still a lot to be learned about tropical forests.

to discover new things European Journal of Taxonomy Has been published in. The names of these five species – Attemsostreptus leptoptilos, Attemsostreptus julostriatus, Attemsostreptus magombera, Attemsostreptus leptoptilos, and Udzungwastreptus marianae have been mentioned. The specimens are currently housed in the Danish Museum of Natural History at the University of Copenhagen.
