Unite 4 Pro was launched just a few months ago. We have reviewed this phone. The smartphone is not just for the budget segment customers, but the company is trying to woo non-English speaking customers in India who can take advantage of the company’s customized OS.
Popular phones like Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus, Xiaomi Redmi 3S and Moto G4 Play are already available in the market for Rs 7,999. Is the unique language feature of Micromax Unite 4 Pro enough to make it the market leader? Let us know.
Micromax Unite 4 Pro design and build
Micromax seems to have found the right formula for smartphone design as the Unite 4 Pro is a good looking phone. There is nothing groundbreaking in the design. To be honest, if the brand logo is not present on the phone then it looks like any other phone of a Chinese company. The metal back panel gives it a slight premium look, which would be good.

The color reproduction and viewing angles of the 5-inch IPS display are good. However, it easily gets fingerprints and other stains. Cleaning it again and again can cause trouble. HD resolution is not bad at this screen size. The brightness is good and we did not face any problem in using the phone even outdoors.
Space has been wasted at the bottom of the display, which is why it appears taller than expected. It seems like there should be capacitive buttons, whereas the company has given onscreen buttons.

The metal rear cover can be removed. Here you will see SIM card and microSD card slots. However, the battery cannot be removed from the handset. You will have difficulty in removing the rear cover. This is a bit tricky. There is a fingerprint scanner in the back of the phone. Speaker and camera modules are present with it.
The Canvas Unite Pro comes with a 7.5-watt adapter, data cable, and instruction manual. Overall we liked the design and build of this device. Due to its design and size, it will be convenient to use it with one hand.
Micromax Unite 4 Pro Specifications and Features
Micromax has used MediaTek quad-core Spreadtrum (SC9832) chipset in the handset. Mali-400 GPU is integrated for graphics. To be honest, it is not a great processor. Sometimes Android runs slowly which is also visible in the results of benchmark tests. The AnTuTu and 3D Mark Ice Storm test results were lower than those of typical MediaTek chipsets.

The handset has 2 GB RAM, 16 GB storage, Wi-Fi B/G/N, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, FM radio and USB OTG. Both SIM slots support 4G LTE. However, there is no Voice over LTE feature.
The most unique feature of Unite 4 Pro is its Indus OS 2.0 feature. It is a regional OS based on Android. Micromax has also used this OS in Canvas and Bolt series handsets. Support for a total of 12 regional languages has been provided in the new OS. It is good for people who are not very comfortable with English.
The OS has been intelligently designed. Some parts of the launcher and select apps like SMS are customized, everything else is like stock Android. You can choose your primary language during the initial setup. Apart from this, mother tongue can also be decided. And you can easily swap between the two. This is not limited to just changing the language. Indus Swipe will translate and transliterate the text in the SMS app from English language to your mother tongue. This feature works only in SMS app. However, to translate text into the regional language in other apps, you will have to use the Indus keyboard.

Indus Reader is a text to speech converter platform. With its help you will be able to listen to written text in 9 different languages. Indus keyboard has native language word prediction and autocorrection feature. The good thing is that you can type your message in English and transliterate it before sending. The translation from English to the language of your choice won’t always be completely accurate, but it’s great for getting a fast response.

Another unique feature is the app market which shows you apps in the language of your choice. With its help you will also be able to purchase the app. And the money will be added to the mobile bill. This feature will be liked by those users who do not want to use credit card to purchase the app. Currently this feature works with Airtel, Idea and Vodafone.
Micromax Unite 4 Pro Performance
Unite 4 Pro is a good phone for general use. Its design is comfortable and it does not get hot during use. The general performance is not bad, but this chipset is not completely capable of multitasking. Many times you will face the problem of the phone slowing down. The app takes a little longer to load. For example, when we were setting up the fingerprint sensor, the phone refused to start the registration process because too many apps were downloading in the background.
Talking about the fingerprint sensor, the fingerprint sensor is slow to respond and it is also not completely accurate. We faced many problems while using the phone. The phone played full-HD videos smoothly, but sound quality was below average. The sound from the speaker is loud enough for you to hear the alert. Nothing more than that. The audio quality in earphones purchased from the market was also below average. Gaana music streaming app is the default music player.

The 8-megapixel rear camera focuses quickly in daylight. There are good colors in the pictures. The app repeatedly over-sharpens the photos. You will realize this when you zoom in on the pictures. Focusing speed reduces in low light. The lack of detail is clearly visible even in pictures taken indoors. However, there is not much noise in the pictures.
It is possible to record videos of maximum 1080 pixels with the rear camera. And 5 megapixel front camera with 480 pixels. Selfie quality was good in suitable lighting. The camera app is essentially similar to the Google Camera app. It is very easy to use it. You will get features like HDR and panorama.

The 3900 mAh battery present in the phone lasted for 13 hours 14 minutes in our video loop test. We will consider this as good. However, we expected more battery life considering the weak chipset. In normal use the phone’s battery easily lasted for a day. Charging is quite slow. It took at least 5 hours for the battery to be fully charged.
our decision
Micromax Unite 4 Pro is priced at Rs 7,999. However, considering the overall performance of the phone, it seems a bit excessive. This phone does well in some things like battery life. Users will like its OS in any case. The design and build is good. The native language integration is excellent and is a defining feature of the phone.
The Unite 4 Pro is less powerful than expected in this price range. You will not get the best Android experience in this. Due to weak audio quality, slow fingerprint reader and average camera quality, we cannot recommend it for you to buy.
If the price is reduced then buying this phone can be considered. If the language support feature is not very important for you, then there are many affordable options available in the market from Micromax and other mobile manufacturing companies.
