Lenovo launched its new smartphone Vibe K5 Note in India on Monday. Earlier, the Chinese company had released several teasers on social media revealing the specifications of Vibe K5 Note. The new Lenovo Vibe K5 Note has many improvements over the previous smartphone Vibe K4 Note. Apart from this, this handset is completely made of metal body. Lenovo Vibe K4 Note has been a popular device in this price segment and recently the company claimed that 7,50,000 units have been sold so far. Now it remains to be seen how the Vibe K5 smartphone performs among the customers. We got a chance to spend some time with the new Vibe K5 Note at the launch event in Delhi and here is the first glimpse of this smartphone for you.

Lenovo Vibe K5 Note has been launched in Black, Gold and Gray color variants. We spent some time with a Gold variant at the launch event. First of all, the look of Vibe K5 Note, this smartphone made of metal body is convenient to hold and use in hand but Vibe K4 Note with matte finish gives better grip. Due to the metal body, the Vibe K5 Note is 165 grams heavy whereas the Vibe K4 Note was 158 grams light. On the other hand, the Vibe K5 Note is 8.4 mm thin while the Vibe K4 Note was 9.1 mm thin.

Just like the Vibe K4 Note, the Vibe K5 Note sports a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) IPS display. The density of the screen is 401 PPI. However, the new Vibe K5 Note does not have Corning Gorilla Glass to protect from scratches. The display of Vibe K5 Note is bright and crisp and can be seen clearly even in sunlight. The viewing angle of the phone is quite excellent.

This time Lenovo has given capacitive buttons instead of onscreen buttons for home, recent and back navigation controls in this smartphone. The physical volume and power buttons are on the right side and are easily accessible.

The rear camera, dual-tone LED flash and fingerprint scanner are provided in a single line on the rear of Vibe K5 Note. On the rear, the ‘Vibe’ brand can be seen in the center while the Lenovo logo is placed at the bottom.

The final variant of the Vibe K5 Note will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with slight changes made by Lenovo and will provide a near-stock experience. But the device we used runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop. Regarding this, Lenovo said that the commercial unit of Lenovo Vibe K5 Note coming in the market will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The company has made the Secure Zone feature of Vibe K5 Note the most unique feature of this smartphone. Activating Secure Zone gives you two secure phones inside the K5 Note. The company has said that users will be able to run apps like WhatsApp and WeChat in different zones at the same time. During this period, there will be a possibility of not missing notifications from both the zones. Apart from this, another feature that we saw is that by double tapping on the screen, anything can be zoomed in. This feature can be very helpful for people with weak vision.

The app comes with a preloaded Theme Center app with options to change many things including the wallpaper, ringtone, and lock screen. The demo variant of Vibe Note 5 had pre-downloaded apps like Flipkart, Myntra, Truecaller, WeChat and the company’s ShareIt and SyncIt. Like Vibe K4 Note, Vibe K5 Note also supports the company’s TheaterMax technology. Apart from this, it also supports VR headset.

Lenovo Vibe K5 Note has a 13-megapixel rear camera which is equipped with PDAF autofocus, F/2.2 aperture and dual-tone LED flash. Tapping the icon quickly launches the camera app. In the short time we spent with the device, we found that photos taken with the K5 Note in normal lighting were crisp and had good detail. Photos do not get pixelated even when zoomed in. The 8-megapixel front camera also produces good pictures but we would like to reserve our judgment until we test the camera in different conditions.

Lenovo Vibe K5 Note smartphone uses 1.8 GHz 64-bit octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor. As for RAM, the user will have the option to choose between 3 or 4 GB. Mali T860 GPU is integrated for graphics. Inbuilt storage is 32 GB which can be expanded via microSD card up to 128 GB. During the time we spent with the demo unit of Vibe K5 Note, we did not face any problems with multitasking and touch.
