The Lenovo P2 feels heavy during normal use and we found it comfortable to use with only two hands, especially while typing.
Volume rocker and power button are provided on the right side of the P2 while on the left side there is a hybrid SIM tray which supports dual-nano SIM. There’s a slider switch on the left, which Lenovo calls the ‘Power Saving Key’, that toggles the Ultimate Power Saver mode. In this mode, you can see a countdown timer to keep track of the remaining battery. The physical buttons and all other buttons work well.
The phone has a micro-USB port with a speaker grill at the bottom while a 3.5mm audio jack is provided at the top. There is a primary camera on the rear with dual-LED flash and Lenovo branding can be seen at the bottom. ‘Made in India’ tag has also been given in this smartphone. The design of the rear panel of the P2 is largely similar to other Lenovo smartphones.
The 5.5 inch Full HD Super AMOLED display given in Lenovo P2 is fantastic. The phone can be used without any problem even in sunlight. Text and photos look quite sharp. And the experience of watching media on the phone is great. Viewing angles are good and color reproduction is also correct. There is 2.5D curved glass to protect the display. However, we were disappointed by the phone’s lack of scratch protection and we encountered a few scratches during our review process.
In the retail box, the customer will get a screen guard, a cover, a data cable, a 24W power adapter, a SIM ejector and an instruction booklet.

The Lenovo P2 is powered by a 2 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 (MSM8953) processor. It has 3 GB or 4 GB RAM. Both variants have 32 GB storage.

Lenovo P2 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow on which the company’s Vibe Pure UI is given. Talking about the software, the software in Lenovo P2 is similar to Lenovo K6 Power (Review) and K6 Note (Review). The P2 has on-screen navigation buttons instead of capacitive buttons. Lenovo told Gadgets 360 that the P2 is Lenovo’s first smartphone to have on-screen navigation buttons. And it will not have the problem of capacitive buttons not being backlit like Lenovo K6 Power and K6 Note.
Lenovo provides a System Button option in Settings to change the position of onscreen buttons or hide the navigation bar. When this setting is enabled, the user will have to swipe up from the bottom to reveal the hidden button. The P2 has many of the same software features as the Lenovo K6 Power and K6 Note. These also have dual apps so that the user has to login with two different accounts in the same phone. When the phone is switched off, you can activate the phone by double tapping on the screen. With VR mode, the smartphone starts supporting ant VR headset. And with wide touch you can use one-touch shortcuts through floating button. Apart from this, when the phone is in standby mode, you can toggle the flashlight by long pressing the home button.
Lenovo P2 has Security Zone feature but this feature will work only when Dual App Profile feature is turned off. Secure Zone feature lets you configure a secondary account like WhatsApp. Just like previous Lenovo handsets, users will get the option of PIN, pattern or fingerprint sensor to lock the phone.
Gestures can be performed using the fingerprint sensor in Lenovo P2. Can work like back button with a single tap. And you can go back to the home screen with just one click. Long pressing the fingerprint scanner launches Google Now.
Lenovo has reduced the bloatware with the new UI. However, the Lenovo P2 comes pre-installed with a number of third-party apps that can be uninstalled. These include Evernote, McAfee Security, Skype, Truecaller and UC Browser. Apart from this, the phone also has apps like Lenovo Companion, ShareIt and SyncIt.
Many setting panels are available with notifications in the notification shade. The Theme Center app, which comes pre-loaded on the P2, contains a variety of wallpapers, icons, and lock screen settings. We found the UI on the P2 to be quite good and suitable for everyday use.

Talking about multitasking and general app performance, Lenovo P2 smartphone performs much better. With 4 GB RAM there is enough memory at all times. Watching videos and viewing photos is especially pleasant with the 5.5-inch display. We had a great time playing Asphalt 8 with the P2 and didn’t encounter any frame drops at any point.
Works well on mobile networks all the time and works well at 4G speeds. Talking about audio, the speakers work well for a small and empty room but some problems were seen at higher volumes. Lenovo has once again disappointed with the earphones that come with it. And we would advise you to use a third-party headset instead of the one that comes with it in the box.
The phone scored brilliantly in benchmarking tests. The 13-megapixel rear camera provided in the phone works fast and focusing is easy due to phase-detection autofocus. The P2 can click macro shots with detail in low-light conditions but landscape shots are average. The detailing in the pictures is fine but noise can be seen at the edges. The P2 produces great photos in low light. Without any artificial light the photos look quite scattered. Additionally, we noticed that the P2 smartphone fails to focus on the subject in low light and this disappointed us. The camera reproduces colors accurately, but only in photos taken in good lighting.
The camera app on the Lenovo P2 is similar to the K6 Power and K6 Note and is easy to use. The camera can be accessed with just a single tap. The P2 can record full-HD video in stunning quality. Selfies taken in good light can be considered decent but in darkness the quality deteriorates. Overall, the camera on the Lenovo P2 works very well, although it is not the standout feature of the phone.
This phone has a 5100 mAh non-removable battery which lasted for 21 hours and 40 minutes in our video loop test. During normal use, the battery of Lenovo P2 lasts for two days.
Even with music streaming, use of Google Maps for navigation and use of YouTube video streaming app, Lenovo P2’s battery lasted for about two hours. Fast charging support is a useful feature and it charges 30-40 percent of the battery in just 20 minutes. With this the phone gets fully charged in 90 minutes.
Another highlight of the P2 is its Ultimate Power Saver Mode which increases battery life to a great extent. This mode disables features like cellular data connectivity and sync. With this mode active, only basic functions like calls, text messages and radio work, but it is very useful in case of emergency. We found the option of Ultimate Power Saver Mode available when the phone has 20 percent battery left and after that the device remained active for about 20 hours.

If we talk about battery performance then Lenovo P2 is a great smartphone. Users who like to be online all the time without worrying about battery drain will love the P2 smartphone. This can also be a good option for people who travel most of the time. Talking about overall performance, P2 can prove to be a good phone for everyday use with its octa-core processor. A phone with a strong focus on battery life, a good camera performance and easy to use software.
Lenovo P2 price starts at Rs 16,999 and it comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. The price of 4 GB RAM variant is Rs 17,999. This smartphone will be available exclusively on Flipkart from Wednesday night.
