Malware attacks are being done in any secret manner
- Fake ads: These fraudulent ads are shown in Google search. They have to look like a valid Google Authenticator ad. The fraudsters display a trusted URL like ‘https://www.google.com’, which adds a false hope of security in the user.
- Fraudulent landing pages: This time, after clicking on the advertisement, users are redirected through a series of fake links and come to a fake website to look like a Google portal. The names of these sites often look original, such as ‘chromweb-authenticators.com’.
- Download Malware: Not understanding, the users inadvertently downloaded a malware in disguise ‘Authenticator.exe’ by clicking the ‘Download Authority’ button.
- By stealing data: Downloaded malware, known as DeersStiller, can steal sensitive information from the customer device.

How to protect yourself
- Download from official source only: Always download Google Authenticator directly from Google Play Store or App Store or Official Google Website.
- Beware of suspicious ads: If you are not fully confirmed about the validity of the software, do not click on ads, especially those that promise to download the software.
- Check the URLs carefully: Before clicking on any link, verify the actual website address, even if the URL seems to be familiar, do not easily trust.
