Researchers have made a study regarding the canine brain. Study Is of. In this the activity of 18 dogs was analyzed. Research has revealed that dogs can establish the memory of an object in their brain. Whenever they hear its name, they understand which item is being talked about. The study has been conducted at Eotvos Lorand University in Budapest. This Current Biology Has been published in the journal.
According to study co-author Mariana Boros, there has been a long-standing debate about whether non-human animals can understand words based on context or not. There have also been reports of behavior in this case but the cases were exceptional. The authors say their study is the first to claim that recognizing objects according to words is a species-wide ability.
Interestingly, the dog owners in the study used words for things that their dogs knew about. It was also done that in some cases, the same objects whose names were taken were placed in front of the dogs, while in some cases such objects were placed in front of the dogs whose name was something else and the object was something else. The result was that when an object matching the word was in front, a different pattern was seen in their brain, and when an object that did not match the word was in front, a different pattern was seen in the brain. The same is seen in humans also.
The result of the research was that dogs understand the words used for objects. Therefore, they also try to create an image of the object related to that word in their mind. Now researchers are working on a plan to find out whether the understanding of contextual language is limited only to dogs, or whether this ability is also present in other mammals.
