Teen Accounts: Meta has recently been introducing ‘Teen Accounts’ features on Facebook platforms like Instagram. Meta has long been alleged that due to lack of Meta Policy restrictions, young adolescent users cannot be protected from online crime. Even Meta is not taking any action in this regard. These features were first introduced on the Instagram app, in all other platforms (Teen Accounts) on the Meta. These include advanced privacy and security settings and parental controls so that parents can monitor and monitor all the activities of their children in the media.
Why is this important decision
This decision has been made at a time when US lawmakers have already brought laws like Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA). The authorities are very active in the elaboration of this Act so that children and adolescents can be protected from the media loss. Along with Meta, platforms like Tiktak (Bytens), YouTube (Google) are also facing hundreds of cases of addiction to the media among children and adolescents.
According to the data, five US states, including California and New York, sued Meta in 2021, where it was alleged that the dangerous nature of these platforms was misleading people due to Meta’s own policy.
What did the meta say
Meta has stated in their new policy that users of 5 years or younger will no longer be able to come live on Facebook or Instagram. Parents need permission to come live. If a nude picture is available in a direct message of a teenager, then the company will immediately blurred it immediately.
This rule will be implemented within a few months
In July 2021, the US Senate approved two important bills, including Kosa and the online privacy protection law for children and adolescents. Both of these laws blame the media for the influence of their platform on children, adolescents, and therefore try to tighten security.
However, the Republican-led House did not vote in Kosa last year, the recent hearing became clear that the meta was still in favor of making new laws to protect children online.
