Space scientists have discovered three new moons in the solar system that have never been seen before! So are these moons newly formed? Or were they hidden from the eyes of astronomers? What do space scientists have to say about these? Many similar questions might be coming in your mind too. Of the new moons that have been observed, two of them are revolving around the planet Neptune, while another moon is revolving around the planet Uranus. They have been spotted using powerful telescopes located in Hawaii and Chile.

After the discovery of new moons of Neptune and Uranus, Neptune now has 16 moons, while Uranus has 28 moons. space dot com Accordingthe International Astronomical Unit (IAU) has announced this discovery. Space scientists have even given them names. One of Neptune’s two new moons, the brightest, has been named S/2002 N5. While its less illuminated moon has been named S/2021 N1. Apart from scientist Scott Shepard, Marina Brozovic and Bob Jackson working at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory are also involved in their discovery.

The story of new moons is interesting
These new moons of Neptune had been seen many times before. These were seen in 2003. But they disappeared before getting accurate information about it. After that, their sighting also came to light in September 2021, but their exact information could not be found. Because they were small in size and were disappearing somewhere in the middle. Scientists say that these are not moons born near Neptune, but they were born somewhere else. Then later Neptune’s gravity pulled them. After which they started circling it.

Neptune’s moon, which is brighter, is about 23 kilometers wide, and it completes one revolution around Neptune in 9 years. At the same time, the moon which is less bright is about 14 kilometers wide. It completes one revolution of the planet in 27 years.
