In such a situation, Jhargram DSP (Cybercrime) Sabyasachi Ghosh asked mobile users to be careful.

As the ‘APK file’ scam is known

It is learned that an APK file called PM Kishan Yojana was sent to the victim’s WhatsApp from a known person’s number. Believing, he downloaded this file. Then there is the danger. Fraudsters launch sim card with same number in Deoghar. When the matter was reported to the Jhargram Cyber ​​Crime Police under pressure, the ‘APK file’ scam came to the fore.

How is this scam done?

Fraudsters send APK files in the name of government schemes like PM Kishan Yojana or Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana through WhatsApp.

  • The victim downloads the file without realizing the fraud.
  • Unknowingly giving fraudsters access to their mobile numbers.
  • The fraudsters then clone the victim’s number and go to another location to activate their own SIM card.
  • The same file is sent to the victim’s contacts.
  • As a result, they also got involved in this scam without realizing it.
  • The cheated person can’t even get a new SIM card.

How to stay safe

  • If you find any unknown APK file on WhatsApp, don’t click on it.
  • Delete APK files from unknown numbers or groups
  • Even if they seem to be from friends or family, check first.
  • Be alert and vigilant to protect your personal information and mobile security.
  • If already caught in the trap, immediately contact the nearest police station or bank to prevent fraud.
