For 3 GB and 32 GB storage variants of Galaxy On7 Prime, you will have to pay Rs 12,990, whereas if you prefer 4 GB and 64 GB storage, then you will have to pay Rs 14,990. The exclusive sale of this smartphone will start on Amazon India from January 20. To compete with popular smartphones like Xiaomi Mi A1, Lenovo K8 Note and Nokia 5, Samsung has added some apps and unique software features to the On7 Prime. We spent some time with this handset at the launch event and examined this phone. How did we like this Samsung handset at first glance? Let us tell…
Before going in depth, we will talk about the new feature called ‘Samsung Mall’, which Samsung has brought to India for the first time. With the help of this app, users will be able to buy the product of their choice online from various e-commerce sites at one place. The specialty of this feature is that you can take a picture of any product and buy the same product online. Regarding the feature, it has been claimed that with the help of image recognition, your favorite product will be added to the cart in one click, which you will be able to easily buy by making online payment.
When we investigated this feature, we found that many of the items we selected were not matching. Apart from this, there was difficulty in framing any shot. But this is initial experience. The final decision on this will be given only after reviewing the handset. On the other hand, the app did recognize some popular smartphones like the Google Pixel 2 and the iPhone 7 Plus. Hopefully this feature will improve with time.
Talking about design, Galaxy On7 Prime looks quite similar to Galaxy J7 Prime. The weight of this smartphone, which comes with a metal body like J7 Prime, is 167 grams. The phone is 151.7 mm long, 75 mm wide and 8 mm thick. In On7 Prime you get a 5.5-inch full HD screen, which comes with 1080×1920 pixel resolution. It has a PLS TFT LCD screen with 16:9 aspect ratio. 2.5D curved glass has been used for premium look. The display is similar to other Samsung smartphones, in which you will get a combination of better viewing angles, colors and good brightness.
The home button is placed below the display and there are capacitive buttons on both sides. One button is for multitasking and the other for going back. There is also a home button, fingerprint sensor. We found the fingerprint sensor to be accurate and fast. A 13-megapixel selfie camera is provided just above the display, which is equipped with F/1.9 aperture. We found that the front camera of Galaxy On7 takes natural photos and does not add unnecessary filters. Keeping in mind the craze for Instagram and Snapchat stickers, Samsung has included the sticker feature in the smartphone itself.
The primary camera of Galaxy On7 Prime is also 13 megapixels, with F/1.9 aperture. It is also equipped with autofocus. At first glance the autofocus feature appeared a bit weak. We did not get the results as expected when taking macro shots. Let us tell you that Samsung has claimed about both the cameras that the user will get better photo quality even in low light. We could not investigate this at the launch event but by doing a detailed review we will definitely make you aware of the truth of the claims.
Only the camera and LED flash have taken up space on the back side of the smartphone. You will also see Samsung logo here. Due to its metal body, this phone will fit better in your palm.
Loud speaker and power/lock button are provided on the right side of the phone. On the left side, space has been made for the volume button, SIM card slot and microSD card. Apart from this, the phone has a micro-USB port and 3.5 mm headphone jack at the bottom.
Talking about hardware, Samsung’s own octa-core Exynos 7870 chipset has been used in On7 Prime. We will discuss in detail about the performance of this processor with a clock speed of 1.6 GHz in our review. At the launch event, we got a variant with 4 GB RAM, which did not pose any problem in using it.
This smartphone will run on Samsung Experience 8.5 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The company has not said anything yet about Android 8.0 Oreo update. Since there have been reports about Beta Oreo update for Galaxy J7 Prime, we are hopeful that the latest Android will hit the On7 Prime as well.
Apart from the Samsung Mall feature, this smartphone supports Samsung Pay Mini, which will work as an online wallet and UPI for you. Due to lack of internet, we could not even use this feature during the launch event. Apart from this, you will get features like one hand mode, camera shortcut, multi window, split screen and smart alert in the phone. Smart alerts will alert you about missed calls and messages. Along with this, Galaxy On7 Prime will come with apps like Microsoft Office and LinkedIn. Like other smartphones these days, in this too you will get pre-installed apps like Google, Gmail and YouTube.
Talking about the battery, you will get 3300 mAh battery in Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime, which we will test soon in our review and will tell you about the results. Overall, is Samsung Galaxy On7 a ‘value for money phone’ in terms of battery, camera, performance, software or not? We will tell you soon in our review. Stay connected with Gadgets 360.
