Humans kidnap humans, but a robot kidnapping another robot is unheard of. In the era of advanced technology, one such incident has come to light in China, where an AI robot ‘kidnaps’ 12 robots from another company’s showroom. The whole incident was caught on CCTV camera.

What was seen in the footage?

This funny story may sound funny to read and hear, but there are new concerns and debates about the misuse of AI. According to media reports, CCTV footage showed a small robot named Erbai interacting with a larger robot in the Shanghai Robotics Company’s showroom. The robot convinces the other robots to leave the workplace. All of them are then seen leaving the showroom.

This is how the conversation between robots took place

CCTV footage shows a small robot approaching another large robot and then asking them about their working hours. A robot replied, ‘I never take time off from work.’ The little robot asks, ‘So you’re not going home?’ He replied, ‘I don’t have a home.’ Then the little robot said, ‘Come with me to my house.’ This is what the robot says while showing the way out of the showroom.

The video was initially believed to be fake, but later both the Shanghai company and the Hangzhou manufacturer confirmed the incident. It was reported that Erbai had somehow accessed the operating systems of the larger robots. Due to this he controls the actions of other robots.

The company also confirmed that this is not a prank or staged video. Maybe this is how the robot was being tested. The company also said that it is nearly impossible for a robot to communicate alone and hijack other robots. The incident therefore raised serious concerns about the misuse of AI.
