Rajesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Center, told a news agency that Indians have so far lost Rs 1,776 crore to fraud by the month of April 2024. Out of this, 1420.88 crore rupees were lost in trading fraud, 22.58 crore rupees were looted in investment fraud and 13.23 crore rupees were lost in dating scams. It is even known that most of the fraudsters are from Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia.
The level of complaints has not decreased, but has increased. In 2021, 4.52 lakh complaints were filed against the cyber fraud department, 9.66 lakh in 2022, 15.56 lakh in 2023 and 7.4 in 2024 between January and April. lakh
