There is no restriction on getting these apps. They can be easily found through simple search or ‘autocomplete’ search.
Lots of downloads these apps, huge income
Statistics show that these types of apps are downloaded in huge numbers from App Store or Play Store. You will also be surprised to hear the amount. Such apps have already been downloaded 483 million times. From which app companies earned 122 million dollars. At least that’s what data intelligence firms like AppMagic say.
A spokesperson for AppMagic said the report has already had an impact on companies. That’s why certain apps have been removed. Others are encouraged to revise the policy as well. However, according to the researchers, the implementation of the regulations is still not seen that way. Even after taking strict measures, such new apps are appearing on Play Store, App Store.
The company has responded, but the gap remains
Pornographic content has been prohibited in Apple’s developer guidelines since the beginning. Google has also banned apps that demean or commodify people. However, the ‘Tech Transparency Project’ identified 18 such apps on Apple’s platform and 20 on Google Play. Some of these apps have promoted using overtly sexual images. On the other hand, some other apps, while seemingly innocuous themselves, have been used for similar nefarious purposes.
Project director KT Palash has opened up about this in an interview, saying that it’s not that companies are failing to run these apps properly. Rather, they are constantly endorsing them and robbing them of profits. In fact, companies are driving users directly to those apps.
