IMEI details are recorded
The IMEI or details of any stolen or lost mobile phones reported to the app are recorded. If a thief tries to use the same phone with a different SIM or new number, the system will alert. In that case blacklists the phone and prevents misuse.

How many mobile phones have been found through Sanchar Sathi app so far?
Sanchar Sathi app/portal was launched by Ministry of Telecom, Government of India in May 2023. As of October 2025, approximately 50,000+ mobile phones have been recovered. More than 700,000 mobile phones have been recovered since 2023. Stolen or lost phones returned to their owners.
Telangana and Karnataka have the highest number of mobile phones recovered through the app. The number of mobile phones recovered in both the states is over 100,000. The app also closed 1.238 million WhatsApp accounts linked to cyber crimes.
